What is your role within the Academic Collaborative Centre related to people with PIMD?
I am a junior researcher, and my research is a follow-up research of the previous PhD research by Gineke Hanzen on participation. Gineke Hanzen developed a definition for people with visual and (severe) intellectual disabilities, and from this definition, we have developed the Participation Model for adults with Profound Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities (PIMD). In order to use this participation model in practice, whether by healthcare professionals, support professionals, or relatives, a translation is needed. We are currently working on this by identifying what healthcare professionals, support professionals, and relatives need in order to promote participation for adults with PIMD.

What do you hope to achieve?
Participation is essential for people with PIMD; it makes them visible, valuable, and strengthens their well-being. Everyone has the right to be a part of the world around them. Unfortunately, participation for people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities (PIMD) is not yet a given. My ultimate goal is to contribute to greater visibility for this group by providing tools for healthcare professionals, support professionals, and relatives, therefore, participation for people with PIMD is not only possible but also becomes an indispensable part of their daily lives.
