Target group
The term PIMD is used to
refer to people with a severe or profound intellectual disability. Their
intellectual disability is so profound that we have no means of ascertaining
their IQ or their developmental age. These people have several types of
disabilities that significantly impact each other, including severe or profound
motor disabilities. People with PIMD usually have limited arm and hand function
and depend on mobility aids to get around. The majority of them also have
sensory disabilities and multiple health issues. The term is usually applied to
people who became disabled before the age of eighteen.
